Go Green! It's St. Patrick's Day!
St. Patrick’s Day is one of our oldest traditions. It recognizes the day Christianity and Saint Patrick came to Ireland. Over the years, it has come to mean embracing Irish culture and heritage. There are celebrations that include parades, festivals and céilithe, a Gaelic social gathering with dancing and music.
Another tradition on St. Patrick’s Day is wearing green. Not many know that before the 17th century, the color associated with St. Patrick’s was blue. After this, it began to shift to green. Ireland is often referred to as the Emerald Isle. Green was used in several Irish revolutionary flags. Green is associated with spring when the day is celebrated. It is also the color of the classic shamrock.
So join the celebration with a pinch of green. You probably have a green skirt or shirt in your wardrobe already. But St. Patrick’s Day is about being proud and loud, especially if you plan to hit a pub or go to a parade or event. Grab one of the brilliant St Patrick's Day ties or other socks and accessories.
For this great day, you want your statement to be bold. Audacious green ties and socks with shamrocks, beer and leprechauns. There is great Irish wear with the flag colors (white, green and red). And though green will always be the color of the day, you can push the envelope as long as your choice still embraces the culture. Look for bagpipes and foods that remind everyone we all have a little Irish in us.
St. Patrick’s Day is a party for everyone. We’re all invited but you’re not really there if you don’t have your share of green. Get your socks and accessories. Put on one of the many bright St Patrick's Day ties or scarves. Join in and have a good time!
